I’m a retired aerospace engineer and military pilot. After reading books that delved into philosophical topics, I created the first version of my personal philosophy in the pre-internet days. It took many trips to the library for me to figure out an approach that worked. The second version of my philosophy came about around 10 years later, and I had better access to information via the internet, but I still could not find a systematic, step-by-step process. Many self-help books talk about how great it is to have a personal philosophy, but did not provide a specific method to create one.
After retiring in 2022, I realized that my personal growth had changed in significant ways, and it was time to update my philosophy again. I worked on it slowly, but not until 2025 did I uncover a new method to use. I was still an AI Luddite at the time, refusing to engage with the new technology, until I found out how useful AI could be as a philosophical and spiritual assistant.
Here at definemyphilosophy.com you will find a straightforward process—drawn from philosophy, psychology, and timeless spiritual teachings for defining your understanding of reality, meaning, ethics, purpose, and the nature of self. You won’t be told what to believe. Instead, you’ll be guided through the same structured approach introduced in the companion book Defining You: How AI Can Help You Create Your Personal Philosophy and Guidelines for Living, which I expect to have released in Spring 2026. The goal is clarity: to know what you stand on, what you stand for, and how you choose to live.
This is a working space.
You’ll find tools, questions, examples, checklists, and reflections that help you move from raw self-inquiry to a coherent statement of your values, virtues, and guiding principles. Whether your worldview is spiritual, materialistic, or undecided, the structure adapts to you based on how you answer the questions.
You don’t need any prior training in philosophy. You don’t need a spiritual or religious background. You only need the willingness to look honestly at your own experience and take responsibility for the beliefs that shape it.
If you’re ready to think for yourself—deeply, clearly, and with integrity—then you’re in the right place.
